“From hybrid electrical practices to heterogeneous situated configurations in Ibadan and Cotonou” – RGS-IBG Annual Conference

Hello everyone,

I am happy to do my first post in English to announce that I had the honour to present my work at the RGS-IBG Annual Conference (28th-30th august 2019), as part of the session 48: “Hybrid electrical configurations : from heterogeneity to reconceptualizing energy transition in Southern countries ?” organized by the ANR Hybridelec project.

My presentation was entitled “From hybrid electrical practices to heterogeneous situated configurations in Ibadan and Cotonou”. The purpose was to analyse the plurality of urban conditions and electricity access technologies in Ibadan (Nigeria) and Cotonou (Benin).

The situations observed in Ibadan and Cotonou through electricity access practices provide evidence on the actual conditions of hybrid access to electricity. Beyond the structural undercapacity of the electricity network and its many failures, households use a multiplicity of technologies feeding a heterogeneous configuration on an urban scale.
